Schwerin (dpa/mv) - The Order of Merit of the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania goes this year to the honorary state chairwoman of the women's self-help group cancer, Sabine Kirton, the chairwoman of the rural women's association, Heike Müller, and the artist Günther Uecker. The medals are to be presented at the New Year's reception by Prime Minister Manuela Schwesig (SPD) in Greifswald in mid-January, as the State Chancellery announced on Monday.
Around 300 guests from politics and business, culture, volunteer work and sport are expected to attend the reception. The Mecklenburg-Western Pomeranian Order of Merit was first awarded in 2002. It is the highest award that the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania can bestow. It is a recognition of special services to the country and its people.
