Mecklenburg-West Pomerania: Orientation sign: First lighthouse on Lake Kummerow

Gravelotte (dpa/mv) - Shipping on the Kummerower See - one of the largest lakes in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania - has a new orientation sign. As the municipality of Meesiger (Mecklenburg Lake District) announced on Sunday, the first lighthouse on this lake was set up in the port of Gravelotte. The light from the 5.50 meter high, blue and white tower, which is made of glass fiber reinforced plastic, can be seen from several kilometers away.

The Kummerower See is around eleven kilometers long and four kilometers wide and is one of the ten largest inland lakes in Germany. With the new tower on the south-east bank, boaters and hobby captains as well as lifeboats should have a permanent point of reference in the event of a storm, said builder Uwe Fischer in Gravelotte. Fischer is also the harbor master, spent more than two years building the project with the support of helpers and handed over the lighthouse to the community.

Gravelotte has a well-developed port and is a popular starting point for campers and water sports enthusiasts, among other things. The Kummerower See is still considered an insider tip for tourists and the river Peene flows through it, which water sports enthusiasts and holidaymakers like to drive through via Anklam to the Peenestrom, which flows into the Baltic Sea.
