Mecklenburg-West Pomerania: Rostock Tamsen shipyard: Five special ships under construction

Rostock (dpa/mv) - The Tamsen Maritim repair and new construction shipyard has drawn a positive conclusion about the 2022 financial year that is coming to an end. The company announced on Tuesday in Rostock that there are currently five different special ships under construction at the Unterwarnow shipyard, more than ever before.

"All of these ship types have in common that we designed and planned them ourselves," said Christian Schmoll, Managing Director of the shipyard. "We have thus established ourselves in the construction of government ships."

Two 23 meter long patrol boats with a flat hull are being built for use in the Wadden Sea for the German General Customs Directorate. The German Society for the Rescue of Shipwrecked Persons (DGzRS) has a sea rescue boat built there. The Navy also commissioned two work boats.

For the repair division, which includes the maintenance, modernization and repair of medium-sized government, research and special ships as well as units of the German Navy, the shipyard reported a double-digit percentage increase in sales for 2022.

In view of the technical, technological and organizational challenges, the company has also expanded its engineering capacities. According to Tamsen, around 25 new employees have been added in the past two years. The number of employees increased to 130, including 17 trainees.
