Mecklenburg-West Pomerania: School starts after the summer holidays in Mecklenburg-West Pomerania

Schwerin (dpa/mv) - In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, school starts again today for around 160,200 schoolchildren. For the first time in a long time, school is starting - despite the ongoing corona pandemic - without additional protective measures such as masks or compulsory tests. The school year starts normally - as before the pandemic began, said Minister of Education Simone Oldenburg (left). On Saturday, the approximately 15,000 first-graders in the north-east had already sniffed the air in the classroom for the first time at the school enrollment celebrations.

The three-phase model developed for schools in the state at the beginning of 2022 will remain effective. This enables continuous school operations even under the conditions of the corona pandemic. Depending on the infection situation and the availability of the teaching staff, each school management can decide how to secure school operations, Oldenburg said.

Not all schools start this Monday: According to the ministry, the 35,200 vocational students will not start again until August 29th.
