Mecklenburg-West Pomerania: Schwesig: Mecklenburg-West Pomerania is investing despite the crisis

Schwerin (dpa/mv) - The state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania wants to invest 1.7 billion euros this year and 1.5 billion euros next year. The government is reacting to crises such as the Ukraine war and is co-financing the federal relief packages for citizens, said Prime Minister Manuela Schwesig (SPD) on Thursday in the big debate before the 2022/2023 double budget was passed.

At the same time, the red-red coalition is also developing the country. This year the investment rate will rise to 17 percent and will be 15 percent in the coming year. Last year it was almost 16 percent. The government wants to set the course for a whole decade, said the head of government.

Schwesig emphasized that the country would not take on any new debt to finance the expenditure. For possible future turbulence, the economic reserve was replenished with 500 million euros and the uncommitted equalization reserve with 300 million euros.

The state budgets in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania had managed without debt since 2006 - 2.85 billion euros were raised in 2020 and 2021 to deal with the consequences of the corona pandemic.
