Mecklenburg-West Pomerania: State Congress discusses ideas for more attractive inner cities

Neubrandenburg (dpa/mv) - How do you bring more people, life and culture back to the inner cities in the northeast? Representatives of trade, companies, urban development and municipalities are dealing with this question at this year's state congress "City Center Development in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania - Challenges and Opportunities" in Neubrandenburg. From the Schwerin state government, Minister of the Interior and Construction Christian level and Minister of Economics Reinhard Meyer (both SPD) want to comment on how the state and federal government can support corresponding ideas for more attractive centers.

Cities have been complaining about increasing vacancies in their inner cities for years. The reasons for this were initially shopping centers on the green field, meanwhile mainly the internet and mail order business are mentioned. Corona has exacerbated this trend, they say. Successful examples of the revitalization of inner cities will also be presented at the congress. Examples of such measures are free internet, voucher systems and city managers.
