Mecklenburg-West Pomerania: Sustainable building: Associations and universities form an alliance

Schwerin (dpa/mv) - The construction industry in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania wants to strengthen the topic of sustainable building with a new alliance. As the Mecklenburg-Western Pomeranian Chamber of Architects announced on Friday, those involved want to develop an understanding of resource-saving construction, provide information for companies and work towards adapting the framework conditions.

The three core topics to be worked on are therefore ecological building materials, energetic renovation and material cycles. The feedback in the specialist forums has shown "that the interest and willingness to participate in the implementation of the recommendations is great and necessary," said Christoph Mey, President of the Chamber of Architects in the Northeast.

According to the information provided, the "Alliance for Sustainable Building" includes industry representatives such as the state chambers of industry and commerce (IHK), the chambers of crafts, the state chamber of engineers and the MV construction association, as well as the universities in Greifswald and Rostock and other representatives from education, construction and real estate industry.

The IHK Vice President in Schwerin, Kai Lorenzen, had already pointed out the current importance of sustainable construction and energy saving at a meeting of the real estate industry at the beginning of the week. In addition to the new building, he made it clear that it is also important to achieve improvements in the existing building through energy-efficient refurbishment: in his words, owners, tenants and landlords should pull together in order to use potential.
