Schwerin (dpa/mv) - In the middle of their summer season, the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania Festival is already looking forward to next spring. "Noa Wildschut has put together a program that, in addition to the classics of the repertoire, also brings a lot of fresh air to Rügen," said festival director Ursula Haselböck on Monday in Schwerin at the presentation of the schedule for the Rügen Festival Spring 2023. With the Dutch violinist Wildschut one of the most sought-after violinists of the younger generation took over the artistic direction. At her side are, among others, the cellist Harriet Krijgh and the violist Nils Mönkemeyer, both of whom have been closely associated with the Festspiele MV for years.
According to Haselböck, a total of 25 events at eleven venues are on the program from March 17th to 26th on Rügen, which includes jazz and tango in addition to chamber music and a large orchestra. "I'm sure that this program, which knows no musical boundaries, will open up completely new perspectives on things we love and things we already know," said the director.
The artists who will be performing on Rügen in spring include the clarinettist Pablo Barragán, the accordion player Martynas Levickis and the pianist Elisabeth Brauß. The guest performance by jazz trombonist Nils Landgren is likely to be one of the highlights of the eleventh Spring Festival. The actor Devid Striesow, who was born on Rügen, reads from Günter Grass' novel "The Tin Drum", accompanied by music by the percussionist Stefan Weinzierl.
The Rügen Festival Spring is part of the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania Festival, which is one of the largest classical music festivals in Germany. Like the current summer season, the concert series on Rügen suffered significantly from corona-related restrictions in the two previous years. In 2020 the spring festival had to be cancelled, in 2021 the concerts in autumn were made up for.
