Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: 350,000 euros for humanitarian Ukraine projects

Schwerin (dpa/mv) - The Schwerin state parliament is providing 350,000 euros for Ukraine aid projects. Parliament decided on Tuesday evening to reallocate the sum originally earmarked by ex-Prime Minister Erwin Sellering (SPD) as start-up funding for the German-Russian partnership association. All groups agreed except for the AfD, which abstained.

The money is to be used for offers of support for those seeking protection and those displaced from the Ukraine in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. These are, for example, language courses, language mediation, psychosocial counseling services and support for children and young people. In addition, the money could be used as start-up financing for aid transports to Ukraine and for reconstruction projects in the war-torn country, it said. Aid organizations and non-profit associations based in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania should be eligible to apply.
