Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: 91-year-old in the clinic: burglars plunder the house

Torgelow (dpa/mv) - Burglars robbed a 91-year-old homeowner in Western Pomerania while he was in a hospital for several weeks. As a police spokesman said on Friday, several thousand euros in cash, electrical tools and garden equipment were stolen from the senior from Torgelow (West Pomerania-Greifswald). The man was in a clinic for longer treatment from the end of June to the end of July, only noticed the loss after his return and reported it in early August. Forensic technicians could have secured traces of a break-in. Investigators are now hoping for clues.

The police spokesman pointed out in this context that owners should have their houses checked by confidants as regularly as possible if they are away for a longer period of time - such as on vacation or illness. Potential perpetrators could become aware of empty houses through full mailboxes or constantly lowered blinds. The police have a prevention program for this under the motto "Through the eyes of the perpetrator". Experienced officers pointed out certain things to residents that could promote burglaries.
