Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: A wave of colds also forces Schwesig to take a break

Schwerin (dpa / mv) - The cold viruses do not stop at politicians either. Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania's Prime Minister Manuela Schwesig (SPD) called in sick on Monday. "Unfortunately, I have to cancel my appointments because the wave of infections is also spreading through my family," she said on Twitter.

On Thursday, Schwesig took part in the federal-state summit in Berlin to deal with the energy crisis, and on Friday he explained the state's aid program in the state parliament in Schwerin. As the State Chancellery announced, Schwesig's deputy, Education Minister Simone Oldenburg (left), will chair the regular cabinet meeting on Tuesday.

"I ask for your understanding and wish everyone who is struggling with it - especially the many children and young people from the bottom of my heart, get well soon," Schwesig continued. According to data from the State Office for Health and Social Affairs, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, like the whole of Germany, is currently experiencing a massive wave of colds. The number of registered flu cases is increasing rapidly. In addition, rhinoviruses, RSV and other respiratory diseases such as Covid 19 are also circulating. Daycare centers and clinics have been complaining about acute staff shortages for weeks.
