Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: abuse complex: a suspect in the north-east

Neubrandenburg/Cologne (dpa/mv) - The public prosecutor's office in Neubrandenburg is investigating a suspect in connection with the abuse complex in Wermelskirchen. A spokesman for the public prosecutor's office said on Wednesday that it was a man who was accused of sexually abusing children. However, the investigation is still in its infancy. The suspect lives in the area of the public prosecutor's office, which is responsible for the Mecklenburg Lake District and the south of the Vorpommern-Greifswald district to Anklam.

The spokesman did not want to give any further details in view of the investigation. The suspect was not arrested and "measures are ongoing". The authorities in North Rhine-Westphalia announced the child abuse complex on Monday. The main suspect is a 44-year-old from Wermelskirchen in the Bergisches Land.

According to the authorities in Cologne, he is said to have offered his services as a babysitter on the Internet and was thus able to approach his victims. He exchanged pictures and videos of "unimaginable brutality" with dozens of other men. So far, 73 suspects and 33 victims have been identified. The focus should be with 26 procedures in North Rhine-Westphalia.
