Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: accidents when overtaking and with cyclists: three injured

Rechlin/Greifswald (dpa/mv) - Three people were injured in two traffic accidents in eastern Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, two of them seriously. Two cars collided near Rechlin (Mecklenburg Lake District) on Tuesday evening because a 41-year-old driver suddenly swerved his car to the left when he was being overtaken by another car, a police spokesman said on Wednesday.

The 27-year-old driver, who overtook, then threw the car against a guardrail, was trapped in the badly damaged vehicle and seriously injured. The 41-year-old in the other car was also injured, and both were taken to hospitals. The federal highway 198 was blocked between Rechlin and Mirow for three hours. An expert is to investigate the incident on behalf of the public prosecutor.

Shortly before, a cyclist near Wusterhusen (Vorpommern-Greifswald) east of Greifswald had overlooked a car on Kreisstraße 22 when he wanted to cross the road. The 64-year-old, who is said to have been drunk, was hit by the car head-on and thrown away. He was taken to a hospital with serious injuries. The car was towed away, the driver appeared unharmed.
