Rügen (dpa / mv) - A 53-year-old was found safe after a large-scale search operation on the beach on the island of Rügen. This was announced by a spokesman for the water police in Sassnitz on Sunday. Abandoned things and clothing had triggered the search on Friday evening.
The man was found in a hotel in the municipality of Glowe on Sunday night, said a police spokesman. He was examined by a doctor and picked up by his daughter. According to initial findings, he did not suffer any injuries, and he was apparently not in the water either. Due to health problems, the 53-year-old was dependent on medication. It was initially unclear how exactly the incident happened.
Officers from the water police and a team coordinated by the German Society for the Rescue of Shipwrecked Persons (DGzRS) looked out for the man on Friday and Saturday on land, on water and in the air. Tracking dogs were also used.
