Koserow (dpa / mv) - After a train accident near Koserow on the island of Usedom with nine injuries, rail traffic is rolling there again: As a spokesman for Deutsche Bahn AG said on Wednesday, the Usedomer Bäderbahn - a subsidiary of the railway - started operations in the morning resumed between Zinnowitz and Heringsdorf. Experts had previously examined rails and tracks for damage.

Early Tuesday morning, a railcar collided with a semitrailer truck at the level crossing on federal highway 111. The rear part of the truck was torn off and a barrier system destroyed. Despite emergency braking, the railcar slid a little further along the track and then derailed. Several travelers and the train driver were injured. According to the police, the 31-year-old driver of the food truck suffered a shock. The damage was estimated at 1.2 million euros.

It took around ten hours to salvage the truck, and the railcar could be completed in the evening. Investigators are checking whether the truck driver tried to cross the level crossing with the half barriers closed. The federal police said he was being investigated on suspicion of endangering rail and road traffic and negligent bodily harm. According to the police, 15 passengers and railway employees were traveling on the Usedomer Bäderbahn train at the time of the accident.
