Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: After Buga cancellation: Five major Rostock projects in focus

Rostock/Schwerin (dpa/mv) - After the cancellation of the Federal Horticultural Show 2025, the state and the Hanseatic City of Rostock identified five major projects, the construction of which is considered to be a priority in the coming years. These are the Archaeological State Museum (ALM), the bridge over the Warnow, the flood protection at the city harbor, the new building of the Volkstheater and the new residential area Warnowquartier, as the Ministry of Agriculture said on Monday after a meeting between the city leaders and the state government.

"It was once again made clear that there is no automatic mechanism whereby the funds promised in connection with the Buga can now simply be used for other projects," said Backhaus. The country had pledged a good 60 million euros for the Buga.

As Backhaus went on to say, time and financial plans as well as estimates of the follow-up costs would have to be submitted immediately for the projects listed. "Particular urgency is required for the Warnow crossing, which is closely related to the ALM." The city must deliver by the end of July. "And as the top management signaled today, this has also been understood," said the minister.
