Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: After the death of a Swiss e-bike driver: the police are looking for witnesses

Waren (dpa/mv) - A death investigation is intended to clarify the exact cause of the death of a cyclist from Switzerland who died north of Waren (Mecklenburg Lake District) on Sunday. As a police spokeswoman said, witnesses are being sought who were on the narrow road between Levenstorf and Hinrichshagen on Sunday afternoon in the heat. The winding route to the Ulrichshusen festival venue is considered dangerous.

A witness found the 65-year-old man in the early afternoon with severe head injuries and helpless on the street. His e-bike lay next to him. The man was wearing a bicycle helmet and was believed to have fallen. First responders and the emergency doctor tried in vain to revive the unconscious man, so he died at the scene of the accident. It is still unclear why the 65-year-old fell on the e-bike. The cyclist was alone on the bike on Sunday. His companion had stayed at the hotel on the lake district.

A coroner should examine again what exactly led to death, said the spokeswoman. After that, the public prosecutor wants to decide on further steps such as an autopsy. So far there is no evidence that a car was involved.
