Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Again protests against energy policy in MV expected

Neubrandenburg/Schwerin (dpa/mv) - In several cities in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, protests against energy policy are expected again today at 6 p.m. According to the meeting authorities, demonstrations are planned in Waren, Schwerin, Rostock, Wismar, Neustrelitz and Neubrandenburg, among others, against the sharp rise in electricity and gas prices and the consequences of inflation. Most recently, the police in MV counted more than 11,000 people at such events in about 20 communities on Monday a week ago, which were peaceful. By far the most participants were registered in Schwerin with 4500 people.

On banners, participants demanded, among other things, an end to sanctions against Russia and energy prices that do not endanger companies and thus jobs. The Schwerin state government, such as Prime Minister Manuela Schwesig and Economics Minister Reinhard Meyer (SPD), had recently promised several times that they would continue to work intensively with the federal government in Berlin to cap basic energy and gas requirements.
