Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Again protests against energy policy planned in the north-east

Neubrandenburg/Schwerin/Rostock (dpa/mv) - In several cities in Mecklenburg and Western Pomerania, people want to protest again against the current energy policy on Monday (6 p.m.). According to the assembly authorities, actions against the sharp rise in electricity and gas prices and the consequences for companies and the cost of living for consumers are again planned in Schwerin, Rostock, Wismar, Neubrandenburg and Waren an der Müritz.

Most recently, on October 3, the police counted more than 7,000 participants in such protests in the northeast. All events in about 20 locations went peacefully. Most of the participants were in Schwerin, where there were around 3,000. Participants have also repeatedly called for an end to the economic sanctions against Russia on banners. Individually, the resignation of the federal government in Berlin was also demanded.

Representatives of the left had demanded that individual organizers distance themselves more clearly from the nationalist and right-wing extremist positions of participants during the demonstrations.
