Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Agricultural fair continues with farmer's day

Mühlengeez (dpa/mv) - Against the background of sharply increased energy and fuel prices, the Mecklenburg Agricultural Exhibition (MeLa) will continue on Friday (9 a.m.) in Mühlengeez (Rostock district). One focus should be the state farmer's day in the morning, where, according to the state farmer's association MV, the topic "Securing food - at what price?" will be advised. Among others, the State Minister of Agriculture and Environment, Till Backhaus (SPD), and the Chairwoman of the State Parliament Agricultural Committee, Sylva Rahm-Präger (SPD), who is also responsible for climate protection, are expected to attend.

Because of high fuel, feed, fertilizer and electricity prices, farmers are still facing unforeseeable cost increases, and food manufacturers such as dairies are also having a hard time with energy prices. According to Backhaus, with around 50,000 employees, the industry is one of the most important economic sectors in the north-east.

The 31st agricultural fair MeLa runs until Sunday. Around 800 exhibitors show machines, technologies, but also garden tools and above all around 1000 animals. The organizers are hoping for visitor numbers similar to those before the corona pandemic, when around 60,000 guests came over four days.
