Stralsund (dpa/mv) - Almost 1000 swimmers swam again from Rügen through the sound to Stralsund on Saturday. The annual Sundschwimmen took place for the 57th time. According to the information, the distance from Altefaehr to the Stralsunder Promenade is exactly 2315 meters. The water temperature was 21 degrees.

According to the organizers, the fastest swimmer was Stefan Herbst from Leipzig. He had already won the race in 2013. Tina Kehlitz from Wittenberg won the women's race. She had previously won in 2019.

Because of the corona pandemic, there was only a reduced version with a maximum of 650 swimmers last year. Almost 500 actually came back then. In 2020, the sporting event was completely canceled due to the pandemic. The Sundschwimmen between Rügen and Stralsund has existed since 1965.
