Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: attempted murder: knife attack with a carnival mask

Stralsund (dpa/mv) - Three months after a life-threatening knife attack on a tenant in Stralsund, the public prosecutor's office has brought charges. The suspect is accused of attempted murder and attempted aggravated robbery, a spokesman for the prosecutor said on Friday. As a car salesman, the 33-year-old is said to have known that the injured party had a five-digit sum of cash at home. The injured party had been to a sales pitch with the suspect in Greifswald a few days earlier.

The knife attack happened on April 6th in an apartment building. The perpetrator wore a carnival mask and rang the doorbell. Immediately after opening, the 58-year-old tenant was stabbed. "This is insidiousness as a murder feature," said the spokesman. The tenant fought back and screamed loudly, so that neighbors came to help. The masked perpetrator fled. The tenant had 30,000 euros in cash in the apartment, but it was not stolen. Police arrested the suspect two days later. He is in custody.

The 33-year-old has denied the crime so far, despite numerous indications, including mobile phone data, the spokesman said. The mask was found in front of the accused's house. The trial is to take place at the Stralsund Regional Court. According to the police, the victim underwent emergency surgery and survived the incident without serious health consequences.
