Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: B198 bypass Mirow: Another stage for planning starts

Mirow (dpa/mv) - In Mirow (Mecklenburg Lake District), another planning stage begins this Monday for the bypass of the federal highway 198, which is important for the south of the state bypass, as a spokesman for the state office said on Wednesday. According to the last interpretation in 2015, this was necessary again because laws on climate protection have changed. Citizens, nature conservation associations and those responsible for public affairs, such as associations and municipalities, could again provide information.

In May there was a hearing for the second section, the western section. The spokesman said it was not yet possible to predict when construction would begin. The lake district and northern Brandenburg have been waiting for the start of construction for more than ten years. Because of the narrow streets and house damage caused by vibrations, the small town with many lakes and watercourses has been demonstrating for years. After rapid planning at the beginning, a complaint from a local resident stopped the project in 2015. The construction is complicated, among other things, because a low moor and the Müritz-Havel waterway have to be overcome.

The costs were last estimated at 33 million euros. According to experts, there is no efficient east-west road connection in the north of Brandenburg and in the south of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.
