Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Bicycle thieves caught lose wheels on the run

Heringsdorf (dpa / mv) - On Saturday morning in Heringsdorf on Usedom, suspected bicycle thieves lost two wheels on their escape - through the open rear door of their van. A holidaymaker from Berlin observed three people loading near a campsite around 4:10 a.m. and spoke to them, the police said. In addition to the two lost wheels, police officers then secured nine other bicycles ready for transport near the loading point.

Finally, on Saturday, 19 bicycles were reported stolen. They had all disappeared near the campsite. The owners of the eleven bikes found got them back. The police gave the total value of the missing bikes as 20,000 euros. Further details - such as the perpetrators and their vehicle - were not initially known.
