Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Big crowds at the "Open Gardens in MV" campaign

Wandering around in someone else's gardens? This was easily possible in the northeast at the weekend. According to the organizers, the "Open Gardens in MV" campaign is enjoying growing popularity.

Schwerin (dpa/mv) - Numerous nature lovers used the bright early summer weather at the weekend to explore the gardens of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Around 120 private gardens, parks or nurseries were open to the public during the "Open Gardens in MV" campaign on Saturday and Sunday. So far it has gone very well, said a spokeswoman on Sunday afternoon. About 300 to 400 guests were counted per garden.

In many places, visitors could also look forward to coffee and cake. Next to the internet, colorful watering cans pointed the way to the gardens. The campaign should run until early evening.

The project is about gardeners opening their gems to strangers, said the spokeswoman. The initiative has grown over the past six years. In the meantime, groups have arranged to meet up specifically for "garden hopping". Apart from the island of Rügen, there were participants all over the country.

According to the organizers, a second weekend is already planned for autumn due to the great demand, when the gardens in the country should open. In addition, the "Summer Night in the Garden" campaign takes place in mid-August, with evening cultural programs in the gardens such as readings, music or plays.
