Rostock/Schwerin (dpa/mv) - The discussion about the Federal Horticultural Show (Buga) 2025 in Rostock is getting sharper. After Agriculture Minister Till Backhaus (SPD) had linked the planned new buildings of the Archaeological State Museum or the People's Theater in Rostock with a punctual success of the Buga, Mayor Claus Ruhe Madsen (independent) has now written a letter to Prime Minister Manuela Schwesig (SPD). The letter is available to the radio station Ostseewelle.
Madsen writes that this link represents a pressure that does not do justice to the mutual responsibility for the task. He had already asked Backhaus to find a different style. At the same time, Madsen criticized the fact that the state government's communication was not working. "Ultimately, I also have to express my irritation that the administration is only unofficially informed about talks by the state government in the political arena of the Rostock citizenship on the subject of Buga."
Madsen emphasized in the letter to Schwesig that it must be in the common interest of the state and city to implement Rostock's urban development and specific projects from the original Buga planning. "Even if it turns out that a buga cannot be carried out."
At the beginning of May, after a crisis meeting between the city and state, Madsen declared that the Buga was not feasible under the current circumstances. During the conversation, it was agreed that the city would have to submit a complete plan for a slimmed-down Buga in 2025 before the summer break. The concept must contain statements on the projects Warnowbrücke, Stadtpark, Stadthafen with flood protection and the new residential area Warnowquartier.
