Schwerin (dpa / mv) - The Federation for the Environment and Nature Conservation Germany (BUND) has sharply criticized the state government in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania for its economic policy. "Absurdly large construction projects such as the planned Center Parc Pütnitz on more than 100 hectares in the most valuable lagoon landscape near Ribnitz-Damgarten or the planned clearing of 130 hectares of forest for a so-called "green industrial area" near Grabow south of Schwerin will lead to more heat due to soil sealing and clearing contribute," said BUND state manager Corinna Cwielag on Tuesday in Schwerin on the occasion of the so-called Earth Overshoot Day on July 28.
From their point of view, the projects funded by the state are evidence of a resource-wasting, fundamentally wrong economic policy. According to Cwielag, this also includes delaying a solar obligation for new buildings. In view of the impending changes resulting from climate change, the BUND calls for a fundamental change in the way of doing business and living. "The planet's warning lights glow dark red. In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, too, the water levels are falling and the heat is rising," it said. According to the BUND, investments of one billion euros are needed to protect groundwater and bodies of water.
Earth Overshoot Day marks the date when humanity has mathematically used all the resources the earth can produce and regenerate in a year.
