Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Cattle graze on the A20 and cause closure

Schönberg (dpa / mv) - A herd of cattle caused a full blockage of the Autobahn 20 between Lübeck and Rostock near Schönberg (Northwest Mecklenburg) on Monday. As a police spokeswoman in Wismar said, drivers had noticed and reported several animals at the Schönberg motorway early in the morning. When the officers came, the cattle were grazing on the hard shoulder of the A20 in the direction of Rostock and stopped at the wildlife fence - but on the wrong side.

The A20 was temporarily closed to the east because of the danger, because the animals also ran in the direction of the lane. Several officials and the alarmed cattle farmer were then able to drive the animals over the driveway and federal highway 104 to the farmer's farm. According to initial investigations, the cattle are said to have escaped from a pasture. It is still being investigated whether the animals got onto the A20 directly via the driveway or in another way.
