Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: CDU and FDP decide on Ebert as mayor candidate

Rostock (dpa/mv) - The district associations of the CDU and FDP in Rostock will decide on Friday evening (from 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. respectively) at separate small party conferences on the nomination of senior police officer Michael Ebert as a candidate for the mayoral election in the Hanseatic city. The state executives of both parties and the voters' alliance "Independent Citizens for Rostock" have already spoken out in favor of the current director of the state riot police office.

The Greens are in the running for the top post in Rostock Town Hall with Claudia Müller, Member of the Bundestag and Federal Government Coordinator for Maritime Business and Tourism. The left nominated the member of parliament Eva-Maria Kröger and the board of the Rostock SPD recommended the head of the state building and real estate office in Rostock, Carmen-Alina Botezatu, as a candidate.

A new mayor will be elected in Rostock on November 13th. The previous incumbent, Claus Ruhe Madsen, moved to Schleswig-Holstein in June as Economics Minister in the cabinet of Prime Minister Daniel Günther (CDU). Should a runoff election become necessary, this is scheduled for November 27th.
