Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: CDU calls for the resumption of legal training in Rostock

Schwerin (dpa/mv) - The CDU has called for the resumption of full legal training at the University of Rostock. "This demand is shared both by the jurisdiction in the country and by the bar association," said the legal policy spokesman for the CDU parliamentary group, Sebastian Ehlers, on Thursday after talks in Rostock. There is a shortage of staff in the judiciary.

Only two professorships and three staff positions are needed for the law faculty of the University of Rostock to be able to offer full legal training with a state examination again. The additional costs of around 500,000 euros per year are not significant in relation to the lack of lawyers with all the associated negative consequences, said Ehlers. "Red-Red unfortunately rejected the demand during the budget deliberations." The law faculty of the University of Rostock currently offers a bachelor's and a master's degree, but not training leading to the state examination.
