Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: CDU proposes state aid for nursing home residents

Schwerin (dpa / mv) - To dampen the sharp increase in private shares for nursing home places, the CDU parliamentary group is proposing a temporary state aid program. According to this, the state should reimburse the residents of the home up to 50 percent of the increase in their own contribution every month. "In this way, the financial burden would at least be alleviated somewhat," said CDU MP and former Health Minister Harry Glawe on Friday in Schwerin.

The proposal will be discussed in the state parliament in the coming weeks. It also calls on the state government to press the federal government for sustainable changes. "In order to break the spiral of costs for co-payments in inpatient care facilities, a far-reaching reform of care insurance is needed," emphasized Glawe. With the reform steps of the previous black-red federal government, nursing home residents were only insufficiently relieved.

According to Glawe, the personal contribution in inpatient care facilities in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania has increased by around 600 euros and thus by around 50 percent in the past four years. In July, the substitute health insurance association presented calculations according to which home residents in the north-east pay an average of 1,828 euros per month. That was 132 euros more than at the beginning of this year.

On a nationwide average, the contributions calculated for home residents rose by 69 to 2,248 euros per month. However, the co-payments were lower in real terms because the federal government has been paying home residents a subsidy for care and support since January 1st - staggered according to the length of stay.

The home costs are only partially covered by the nursing care insurance funds. The personal contributions to be paid by the residents are made up of three items. In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, an average of 836 euros is charged for care and support, 655 euros for room and food and 337 euros per month as an investment flat rate.
