Schwerin (dpa/mv) - Dual vocational training is in demand again: the three chambers of industry and commerce in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania registered 3231 new training contracts at the official start of the training year on August 1st, as the head of the department for training and further education at the Chamber of Industry and Commerce Schwerin, Peter Todt told the German Press Agency on Wednesday. At the same time last year there were 3183.

There was growth in all three IHK districts. The IHK Schwerin reported an increase of two percent to 903 contracts, the IHK Rostock also increased two percent to 1359 contracts and the IHK Neubrandenburg for eastern Mecklenburg and Western Pomerania increased three percent to 969 contracts.

According to a spokeswoman, the 1000th training contract in the IHK region for the east of the country was signed in Wolgast on Wednesday. The Peene shipyard completed it with a young man who was being trained there as a construction mechanic.

Although the training year has already begun, the chambers and companies are hoping for more new trainees. At the end of August, the IHK Schwerin wants to organize a big event for young people who are still looking for a job together with the Chamber of Crafts and the Employment Agency. The vocational schools start the new school year on September 1st. According to Todt, training contracts could also be concluded in the weeks that followed. He appealed to young people who are not yet provided for to take care of an apprenticeship.

At the end of 2021, the chambers of industry and commerce in MV had registered 4,497 new training contracts. It's hoped for more than 4,500 this year, Todt said.
