Stralsund (dpa/mv) - Those responsible for the renovation of a historic granary in Stralsund's old town were awarded this year's builder's prize by the Historic Cities Working Group on Wednesday. The commitment and perseverance deserved the award, the reason given.

According to the consortium, the listed brick building dates back to 1894 and had been vacant and derelict since the 1990s. The interior of the building was rebuilt with steel and reinforced concrete, but the outer walls were preserved.

In addition to Stralsund, the AG also includes the cities of Bamberg, Görlitz, Lübeck, Meissen and Regensburg, each of which awards its own developer prize. At a meeting in Stralsund at the beginning of October, the city leaders or their representatives jointly decided on the award winners.

The builders of the renovation of a gabled house from the beginning of the 17th century as well as the new construction of a gabled house including ancillary building also received recognition in Stralsund. The client award is endowed with 1,500 euros and the recognition with 500 euros each.
