Rostock (dpa/mv) - The 65-member council of the University of Rostock will appoint a new rector on Wednesday (from 4 p.m.). The office is awarded for five years. The communication and media scientist Elizabeth Prommer and the mathematician Klaus Neymeyr are up for election. It is about the successor to Rector Wolfgang Schareck, who will leave office in April 2023.

The University of Rostock is one of the most traditional universities in Europe. It was founded in 1419 as "Alma Mater Rostochiensis", is the third oldest university in Germany and the oldest in the entire Baltic Sea region. It consists of nine faculties and has around 13,000 students.
