Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Day of German Unity 2024 in Schwerin

Schwerin (dpa/mv) - Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania will take over the presidency of the Bundesrat on November 1, 2023 and will host the central celebrations for the Day of German Unity in Schwerin in 2024. Prime Minister Manuela Schwesig (SPD) announced this on Tuesday.

To prepare for the presidency year, a "political steering group" will be set up, which will include all state ministers, the state's representative at the federal level, Jutta Bieringer (SPD), state parliament president Birgit Hesse and Schwerin's mayor Rico Badenschier (SPD). A project group with an affiliated office will be set up in the State Chancellery. "Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania will receive special attention in the year of the Federal Council Presidency," explained Schwesig. "This is a wonderful opportunity to show what is possible in our "country to live in" and where we want to go together."

For Unity Day 2024, the head of government announced a large public festival in Schwerin. The state capital was already the host in 2007.
