Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Deadline for gas levy: Prices for public utilities are rising

Schwerin/Rostock/Neubrandenburg (dpa/mv) - Numerous gas customers in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania have to adjust to higher prices. The key date for the announcement of rising gas prices from October was Friday. In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, many municipal utilities have already taken this step, others such as Stadtwerke Neubrandenburg followed suit on Friday. "The company is thus passing on the gas procurement levy and the gas storage levy newly introduced by the state to customers," they said. In addition, there is the accounting charge. Although this is not new, it has been increased.

According to a sample calculation by the company, this will add around 38 euros a month to singles in the winter quarter. For a two-person household, the estimated value is 53 euros, for a family with two children it is around 92 euros.

In Rostock, Schwerin, Neustrelitz and other municipalities, among others, customers have to adjust to rising prices. In the state capital, the municipal utilities had already announced a hefty increase in tariffs on Monday: from 11.35 cents to 22.71 cents per kilowatt hour in the “citygas best” tariff. According to the information provided, the gas levy was not yet included, but will be passed on in full. If you take the example calculation from Neubrandenburg as a basis, the already announced increase corresponds to a monthly additional burden for a Schwerin family with two children of around 290 euros.

To ensure that the additional burden does not only arrive through an additional payment at the end of the year, the public utility company in Neubrandenburg initially wants to increase the monthly deductions. In the lake district, plans are also being made to immediately pass on any relief for companies by the federal government to customers, thereby lowering prices again.
