Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Debate expected at the start of the state parliament session

Schwerin (dpa/mv) - The members of the Schwerin state parliament will start the last week of meetings this year on Wednesday (10 a.m.). At the start of the three-day deliberations, at the request of the CDU, the political support for the police and judiciary in the state is to be debated in the current hour.

The reason for this is the arson attack on the accommodation occupied by war refugees from the Ukraine in Groß Strömkendorf near Wismar. According to the CDU, the ruling party Die Linke has revealed doubts about the work of the investigative authorities with statements on the case. Although a firefighter from the region had been arrested as a suspect, the left continued to believe that the attack could also have a xenophobic background, explained CDU parliamentary group leader Franz-Robert Liskow in the run-up to the debate.

The parliamentarians have numerous bills to discuss and pass. These include laws on digitization in the state administration and changes in legal training. In addition, a successor to the outgoing state data protection officer, Heinz Müller, is to be elected. The governing parties SPD and Linke have nominated the left-wing politician Sebastian Schmidt.
