Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Decorated ships end the season with a trip with lights

Fairy lights on the ships and the last trip of the year - with this special harvest festival, the fishermen say thank you for their catch this year. This traditional sailor's Christmas in Wismar is also beautiful to look at.

Wismar (dpa/mv) - The traditional Seaman's Christmas was celebrated in the port of Wismar with ships decorated for Christmas. Several fishing cutters and passenger ships, brightly lit by fairy lights, left on Sunday afternoon for their last trip of the season, as the organizer told the German Press Agency on Sunday. The light ride was observed, photographed and filmed by many onlookers on land.

Before the voyage to sea there was a prayer on the medieval cog "Wissemara" in the afternoon. The "Wissemara" is a replica of a Hanseatic cog from the 14th century. With the trip and the festival of lights, the fishermen and sailors celebrate their very own harvest festival and say thank you for the catch that they brought on board in the current year.
