Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: District association provides information on measures in the event of a power failure

The gas storage facilities are well filled and coal and nuclear power plants have been connected to the grid for longer. However, bottlenecks in the energy supply cannot be ruled out during a cold winter. The district council advises preparing for emergencies.

Schwerin (dpa/mv) - In a three-page citizens' letter, the district council of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania has now informed about state measures in the event of long-term problems with the energy supply. He also gave tips for personal provision. In view of the approaching winter, many citizens were worried about an impending energy shortage and longer power outages. "If something like this happens, the state and local authorities will support them as far as they can," says the letter, which was published on the website of the municipal association.

The example given is the establishment of "heat islands" where people can warm up and, if necessary, prepare hot meals. So-called lighthouses are planned as contact points in the event of a radio, internet and mobile radio failure, in order to receive or transmit information. In addition, everything is being done to maintain fire protection and rescue services and to ensure the water supply.

Nevertheless, the population is called upon to make ends meet even when the supermarkets are closed. "Please check carefully whether you are prepared for a longer outage of electricity, heat or drinking water. Every household should have supplies for ten days, especially non-perishable food and liquids. A small supply is better than no supply! Build Stock up on your supplies for a long time without buying hamsters," warns the district council and appeals to everyone's solidarity. The corona pandemic has shown that neighborhood help works well for people in quarantine, for example.

In its letter, the district council also refers to the website of the Federal Office for Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance (https://www.bbk.bund.de). There is a lot of useful information for crises and recommendations for stockpiling. "A crisis is always easier to bear if you are well prepared and together. Of course, the best crisis is the one that doesn't happen. In this sense, we wish for a crisis-free winter," the citizen's letter said.
