Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Drivers are left with undocumented dogs on the A19

Röbel (dpa / mv) - The police in the Mecklenburg Lake District are investigating a driver from Denmark who was found without a driver's license but with three puppies in the car on Autobahn 19. The 30-year-old man stopped his car near Röbel on the A19 on Wednesday, as a police spokesman in Güstrow said. The police were already looking for the driver.

An eyewitness had heard dogs howling from the car at a rest area near Güstrow and called the police. Since the man also had no papers for the dogs, the animals were checked by a veterinarian and taken to an animal shelter. It's not clear how long they were in the car. The A19 comes from Rostock and leads to Berlin. The driver is now being investigated for violating the Animal Welfare Act and driving without a license.
