Ludwigslust (dpa/mv) - In view of several accidents during thunderstorms and heavy rain, the police in Ludwigslust have appealed to drivers to drive more slowly in such weather conditions. As a police spokesman said on Tuesday, three drivers had an accident on the Autobahn 24 and 14 in the West Mecklenburg region on Monday evening. The vehicles skidded in so-called heavy rain, the cars crashed into crash barriers. A 44-year-old driver was injured on the A24 near Neustadt-Glewe and was taken to a clinic.
The fire brigades in West Mecklenburg had to move out to several operations because of the thunderstorm on Monday evening, as a spokesman for the responsible control center in Schwerin reported. In Northwest Mecklenburg, a gas tank had to be pumped out because there was a fire nearby – probably as a result of a lightning strike. Lightning struck a house in Warnitz, a district of Schwerin, and the roof structure then caught fire. In the district of Ludwigslust-Parchim there were about 15 operations because of water in basements or torn branches on streets. In Grabow, water was pumped out of an underpass.
