Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Drunk driver crashes into the porch near Pasewalk

Pasewalk (dpa/mv) - A drunk driver caused total damage of around 50,000 euros when he crashed into the porch of a residential building in Rossow (Vorpommern-Greifswald district) on Christmas Eve. As the responsible police headquarters in Neubrandenburg announced on Sunday, the 42-year-old was driving his car on the B104 when he lost control of his car in the village between Pasewalk and Löcknitz. After touching a street lamp, he drove through the closed courtyard gate of the property directly to the family home before the porch gave the stop sign. The porch was completely destroyed in the impact, and the car was totaled.

When the rescue workers tried to get the man out of the rubble, he reacted aggressively. He also drank from a bottle of vodka he had carried with him in front of the police officers. The breath alcohol test shortly afterwards showed 1.96 per thousand. Even after the man from Neubrandenburg finally got out of the accident car on his own, he continued to insult and threaten the officers and tried to kick them. He also showed and shouted the Hitler salute.

The driver involved in the accident was taken to a hospital. According to the police, the man's behavior and comments indicated that he required urgent psychiatric treatment. A preliminary investigation was initiated against him for endangering road traffic, resistance, attempted attack on police officers, insult, threat, hate speech and use of unconstitutional license plates. The driver's license, which the man only received back last year, was secured.
