Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Duck, goose and deer: Kabinett eats classic at Christmas

The most important of all questions also arise for the ministers at Christmas: "What's on the table?" The answer: traditional. However, the most important item on the agenda at the end of the year remains in the cabinet: enjoy the peace and quiet.

Schwerin (dpa/mv) - After the turbulent first year of government of the red-red coalition, the ministers are looking forward to some rest over the holidays. "The events show us how important it is to spend time with families and friends, and enjoying this time even more intensively is the plan for Christmas and New Year's Eve," said Deputy Prime Minister Simone Oldenburg (left) of the German Press Agency.

For most cabinet members, that means enjoying some rest at home. Not for everyone: Finance Minister Heiko Geue (SPD) and his family are going to Austria this Christmas. He hands over the food decision to the accommodation: He expects game, but let himself be surprised, said Geue.

The menu plan is already set for the politicians at home: while Oldenburg is serving potatoes and Kassler, Interior Minister Christian Schwachen (SPD) is serving meatballs, sausages and potato salad. Economics Minister Reinhard Meyer (SPD), on the other hand, plans to enjoy venison goulash while admiring his Werder-Bremen balls on the Christmas tree.

According to Health Minister Stefanie Drese (SPD), a family competition with her mother is imminent over the holidays: the two of them prepare duck, dumplings and red cabbage - the rest of the family is honored as a jury. With Science Minister Bettina Martin (SPD), on the other hand, the family council still has to decide between the back of a rabbit, which her brother likes, and her own fondue plans: However, no arm wrestling is planned here - not even in a figurative sense. If in doubt, draw a lot, said Martin.

In the case of Minister of Justice Jaqueline Bernhardt (left), however, the holiday rest will have to wait on December 24th. Because of her busy schedule, she lets herself be pampered by her mother-in-law's cooking skills. She can look forward to roulades, dumplings and red cabbage. "It's really the case that I can take a deep breath for myself. I can and would like to be there for my family. Otherwise it always falls by the wayside a bit," said Bernhardt.

Agriculture Minister Till Backhaus' (SPD) Christmas menu, on the other hand, is not only cooked by himself, but also by his own garden. Whether goose, red cabbage or potatoes - everything from our own farm. "As for the gifts, we decided that what the adults used to get would be canceled and donated." It should go to those in need in Germany as well as in the Ukraine.

Unfortunately, the Christmas plans of Prime Minister Manuela Schwesig (SPD) remained a secret until the end. Her year-end rest also applied to interviews.
