Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Economic forecast: companies are uncertain about the future

Schwerin (dpa/mv) - The economy in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is facing the year 2023 with great uncertainty. "There are currently no optimists about the mood," said employer president Lars Schwarz on Tuesday in Schwerin. According to a survey by the umbrella organization of business associations VUMV, the number of companies expecting a deterioration for the year that has just begun has doubled to 41 percent of companies compared to the previous year.

"After two years of the pandemic and a year of energy and price crises as a result of the war, companies are slowly running out of breath, and not just financially," says Schwarz. Due to the great imponderables, the association does not give a forecast for economic growth.

The business representatives are demanding more speed from the state government, especially with regard to the ongoing issue of securing skilled workers and workers. In an immediate program for 2023, they list a large number of measures with which potential is to be maintained, secured, exploited and regained. "We have no time to lose," said the Employers' President.
