Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Electricity price doubled at Stadtwerke Schwerin

Schwerin (dpa/mv) - Stadtwerke Schwerin will double its electricity price at the beginning of 2023. If a kilowatt hour currently costs 26.31 cents in the "Citystrom Classic" tariff in the area of the Schwerin network company (NGS), it will be 53.78 cents from January 1st gross. This emerges from a message from Stadtwerke Schwerin on Monday. In addition to the working price, the basic price also increases, from 124.95 euros to 139.23 euros. In the basic supply, the gross energy price increases from 27.85 cents to 55.32 cents per kilowatt hour and the basic price from 117.81 euros per year to 132.09 euros.

The main reason for the increases are massive increases in wholesale prices, it said. In addition, there would be increased network charges and higher costs for the operation of metering points. Around 48,000 customers in the NGS network are affected. Prices also rose for around 37,000 customers in third-party networks. According to the planned electricity price brake, 80 percent of the previous year's consumption should be sold for 40 cents per kilowatt hour. This means that the price increases will not reach consumers in full.

Stadtwerke Schwerin pointed out that according to the current legal situation, 19 percent VAT must be paid on electricity. "Should the sales tax change, this will affect the gross prices accordingly," it said.
