Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: EUR 25,000 property damage from a basement fire

Schwerin (dpa/mv) - According to the police, a basement fire in a prefabricated building in the south of Schwerin caused damage of around 25,000 euros on Sunday morning. Due to heavy smoke, parts of the building were initially evacuated as a precaution. But the 22 residents of the two affected stairways could have returned to their apartments during the day, said a police spokeswoman. There were no injuries. The cause of the fire has not yet been clarified. The police have started an investigation. On Tuesday, an expert should examine the basement rooms for possible traces.
