Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Expected Corona autumn wave: Pandemic expert council meets

Schwerin (dpa/mv) - While the Corona summer wave is rolling through Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, politicians and authorities are already looking to autumn. Today, the country's Pandemic Expert Council is meeting for an online consultation. Three meetings are planned until the end of August.

This involves questions of how vaccination can be carried out and how particularly vulnerable groups should be reached. Health Minister Stefanie Drese (SPD) has already appealed to all older people and those with previous illnesses to get a fourth vaccination and not to wait until autumn. From the end of August, according to the previous plans, mobile vaccination teams in the nursing homes should offer the renewed booster vaccination.

The Pandemic Expert Council includes scientists such as the Rostock tropical medicine specialist Emil Reisinger and the Greifswald bio-informatician Lars Kaderali, representatives of hospitals and the medical profession as well as municipal and social associations. The committee will also discuss the current corona situation, said a spokesman for the Schwerin Ministry of Health. The committee last met in May.

The seven-day incidence of detected new infections was 656.3 in MV on Monday - after 541.7 a week ago, as announced by the State Office for Health and Social Affairs (Lagus). The key seven-day incidence of hospitalizations nationwide was 5.6 -- down from 3.8 a week ago. In some regions, however, the value is currently significantly higher, for example in Schwerin on Monday at 10.5 and in the Ludwigslust-Parchim district at 10.4.

So far, no district has indicated an imminent overload, according to the ministry spokesman. If there is a risk of the healthcare system being overloaded, the district or city concerned would have to report this, and the state parliament could decide to declare the region a corona hotspot. Then containment measures could be taken there.
