Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Federal President Steinmeier for three days in Neustrelitz

Berlin/Neustrelitz (dpa/mv) - Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier is visiting Neustrelitz for several days in mid-October. As the Office of the Federal President announced on Wednesday in Berlin, the head of state will meet people from the region at several events from October 11 to 13 and will also conduct his official business from the former residential city. One of the highlights will probably be the reception of the Slovenian President Borut Pahor with military honors on the city's market square.

According to the Office of the Federal President, Neustrelitz is the fourth station in the Federal President's "Local time Germany" series since the beginning of his second term in February 2022. The stays outside of Berlin are intended to be "open and interested, controversial, with citizens about current challenges, wishes and concerns and "respectfully" to start the conversation. Steinmeier visited Altenburg in Thuringia in March, Quedlinburg in Saxony-Anhalt in May and Rottweil in Baden-Württemberg in June.

At the "local time Neustrelitz" the Federal President will again take a lot of time for encounters and discussions. He wanted to get an impression of how people see their everyday life and the country in view of the ongoing war against Ukraine, dramatically rising prices and after more than two years of the pandemic. The social and economic upheavals that the people of the region had to cope with since 1989 also played a role.

Among other things, a "controversial coffee table" is planned, at which Steinmeier wants to discuss protest culture and the high cost of living with the participants, among other things. There are also plans for a discussion with small and medium-sized companies on energy security and renewable energies and a walk through the city where young people can talk about what moves them locally. "The Federal President has plenty of time, is approachable and is looking for spontaneous encounters," announced the Federal President's Office.
