Parchim (dpa/mv) - In Herzberg near Parchim, a silo of a drying plant for grain caught fire on Tuesday. As a police spokesman said, the 14 meter high container is said to have contained around 30 tons of grain. Firefighters were able to bring the fire under control quickly, but the silo still had to be cooled. The cause of the fire is still unclear.
Grain that is still too moist after threshing is dried in a grain drying plant, thereby improving its quality. In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, barley was mainly threshed and brought in during this year's harvest. The amount of damage is still unclear.
