Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: First hotel receives quality seal from the hiking association

Rostock/Sagard (dpa/mv) - Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania not only wants to score with holidaymakers with the Baltic Sea beach and lakes, but also wants to be perceived more as a hiking region in the future. As the state tourism association announced on Tuesday, the apartment hotel Mare Balticum in Sagard on the island of Rügen has now received the "Wanderbares Deutschland" quality seal.

This is the first time that the seal of the German Hiking Association has been awarded to accommodation on the island of Rügen. Previously, the four-star Hotel Kleines Meer in Waren (Müritz), the Bodden Panoramaweg and the Fridolin hike in the Feldberger Seenlandschaft had already received it in the north-east. The name of the hiking trail goes back to Hans Fallada's children's book "Fridolin, the cheeky badger", which is about nature adventures in the region.

Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania has so far been underrepresented in the overview map of the hiking association with recommended accommodation and routes. For example, 18 hotels and guesthouses are listed for the Harz Mountains and 24 for the Ore Mountains in Saxony.
